According to the “Hertfordshire Village Book” cricket matches have been played on Redbourn Common since 1666 AD, this being the earliest report of the game in the country. Redbourn Cricket Club however; from the records available was not established until 1823, when a committee was formed and minutes of their meetings kept.
Redbourn won the County Challenge Cup for 3 consecutive years (1888, 1889 & 1890) and were given the trophy in recognition of this achievement. This silver trophy is still the property of the club and has been passed on to each Club President over the years.(see photo section for picture)
2007 was a year of consolidation for the senior teams. The 1st XI had a brush with relegation in Division 4 and the 2nds finished mid table. The 3rd XI played their first season in Division 13 and the big positive here was the experience gained by a side often containing five or six U13's.
This season the new 1st XI captain, Dan Roe, is confident that his side can challenge for promotion. The 3rd XI captain also feels that a batting point should be an achievable goal this year.
The Junior section continues to go from strength to strength. We now field seven sides. Tom Marino and Milo Knights have been selected to play for the County U11 side and a number of other boys are playing in district and Area games.
